Paediatric First Aid (2 days) for Early Years staff – Delivered by The Training Co.
This Paediatric First Aid course covers a wide range of topics but focuses on dealing with accidents and emergencies involving young children and is compliant with EYFS requirements. It includes the principles of Paediatric First Aid and the legal requirements.
About
The EYFS states that all staff who have obtained a Level 2 and/or Level 3 qualification since 30 June 2016 must also hold a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification within three months of starting work to be included in the required staff:child ratios.
This course is taught over 2 days and is split into 6 hours of eLearning via a learning portal and 1 practical day session. Delegates will receive a login and password to the learning portal via unique email address where they will be able to log in and out, over time and at their own speed to complete the theory section.
Knowledge testing is done throughout the eLearning, this must be completed prior to attending the Practical session, but no more than 7 weeks in advance of it.
There are several practical assessments / observations made by the trainer throughout the course. The trainer will carry out on-going assessment to assess the learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.
To assess competence and gain certification, the learner will need to demonstrate, without assistance from a third party, practical tasks such as CPR with the casualty on the floor to simulate a real-life situation. If the learner is unable to carry out this practical assessment, for example because they cannot kneel, then they will not pass the course and will not gain the qualification.
Each learner is provided with a course manual.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- understand the role and responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider and assess an emergency situation safely
- provide first aid for an infant or child who is:
- unresponsive
- choking
- with external bleeding
