About this walk

Old Parish Lane is a key 1.5km bridleway and commuter route that links the suburban village of Ovingdean to the northern downland settlement of Woodingdean. 

Historically tracing the ancient borders of the old parishes, it has recently been transformed into an accessible, paved multi-use path to encourage walking, cycling and wheeling. 

Starting from Woodingdean and walking downhill towards Ovingdean, there are extensive, stunning views over the downs and the sea.

Directions

Bus numbers 2, 22, 72a, N1 at Downs Hotel (Woodingdean)

  1. From the bus stop cross the road towards Woddingdean Primary School. Go down the road beside the school, pass a turning circle and continue onto a wooded track with houses on the right.
  2. At the double gates, go through the bridleway gate onto Old Parish Lane (tarmac path). Follow the path down towards Ovingdean.
  3. At Ovingdean, go through the bridleway gate and cross the road with care onto the pavement. Turn left and head to the bus stop.
