Council services during hot weather
There have been some changes to the usual working hours of some services, such as refuse collection, in order to protect staff health and safety, but disruption has been kept to a minimum and most services are operating as normal.
Residents can continue to put out their bins and waste recycling for collection as usual.
We are continuing to review our service delivery as the advice on the extreme heat evolves and providing additional support and cool spaces to those most impacted.
Our priority is to keep people safe during this period of extreme heat and we will continue to share updates.
Red heat health alert extended
The red heat health alert has been extended across the South East until 11pm on Friday 26 June.
This is a rare alert and means everyone can be affected by the heat – including people who are normally well.
Temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees, with hot conditions continuing overnight.
We have shared advice on how to keep safe during this hot weather.
The weather may be hot, but water is still cold. Do not jump into the sea or open water to cool off. Cold water shock can be fatal.
If you feel unwell, help is available – please visit a pharmacy for advice, contact your GP, or use NHS 111 online or by phone. Call 999 or go to A&E only for life-threatening emergencies.
Find more advice, visit the NHS website, read UKHSA’s blog on how to keep cool, review the GOV.UK beat the heat guidance or check out the Met Office’s tips.
