Marching with Trans Pride

This Saturday 18 July the city will dress in light blue, pink and white as we celebrate our annual Trans Pride, one of the biggest protest events of its kind in Europe.

We’ll be flying the Trans flags from our town halls this weekend to join in on the celebration and show our continued support for Trans Pride Brighton and our Trans, Non-binary and Intersex (TNBI) communities.

Like every year, the Trans Pride celebrations begin with protest march, meeting at Valley Gardens at 11.30am for speeches and setting off from 12 noon.

People joining for the accessible march are asked to assemble in front of the Old Ship Hotel on the seafront. This short section is the only accessible part of the march and free accessible taxis will be running from outside the Corn Exchange to the venues throughout the day.

The march finishes at Victoria Gardens, the setting of a new and improved Band Stage with their best ever sound system and almost triple the capacity of last year’s venue, along with expanded community stalls, the bar area and a large screen showing live performances.

The organisers have planned a variety of exciting events and performances in venues all across the city, including acoustic stage, family and sober space at Dorset Gardens and a makers’ market at The Brighton Dome, as well as after party in the Corn Exchange and The Actors Trans Pride Street Party.

Trans Pride with our LGBTQ+ Workers Forum

We stand alongside our communities in celebrating the vibrant diversity of Trans, Nonbinary and Intersex (TNBI) and gender diverse peoples and the achievements of our trans friends, family, colleagues, students, customers, employers, neighbours and young people.

This year, our LGBTQ+ Workers Forum will be hosting the council stall at the Trans Pride in Dorset Gardens, so come and say hello and learn about working for the council and the support we can provide to trans people in our city.

About Trans Pride

The first Trans Pride in Brighton & Hove took place in 2013. It has since grown into the biggest event of its kind in Europe.

The event seeks to show the TNBI community in all its joyous glory and celebrate transgender people as artists, musicians, writers, performers, as well as trans people as everyday people just getting on with their lives.

It is run by a grass-roots, community-led organisation staffed entirely by volunteers.

Reporting hate crime and anti-social behaviour

Everyone in Brighton & Hove has a right to feel safe.

We are committed to supporting communities harmed by hate crime.

We encourage anyone who has experienced anti-social behaviour or hate incidents, harassment or distress due to their identity, to report it.

Council tenants, council leaseholders and tenants of leaseholders who've experienced hate incidents or ASB should report it to Housing Customer Services. Housing association tenants need to report incidents to their landlord.

Private rented sector tenants and owner occupiers can report hate incidents and ASB to the Community Safety Team using our online anti-social behaviour and hate incident reporting form or by contacting our Community Safety team by emailing communitysafety.casework@brighton-hove.gov.uk or calling 01273 292735.

You can report hate incidents or ASB to Sussex Police on 101 if it’s not an emergency. In an emergency, always call 999.
