About the Portslade Village Centre project

As part of the New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme, the council is planning to demolish the Portslade Village Centre building and create a new community centre and 28 new council homes. Plans also include new public spaces with space to grow food.

What is happening now at Portslade Village Centre

Planning Committee approved the Portslade Village Centre application in June 2024. 

As preparation for the demolition phase, some initial site setting up work began Feb to March 2026. We are now making the building ready for demolition, and a hoarding will be installed in August 2026. 

Project history

The project team have developed proposals for the Portslade Village Centre site to provide affordable council housing and a new, more modern and accessible community centre.

Following initial feasibility work, a pre-application planning process, and consultation with Extratime, we informed local residents and businesses of our intention to develop the site. We invited residents to let us know what they wished to see from the landscape design, then further developed the proposals for a public consultation in February 2023.  

A planning application was approved in October 2024. Application No: BH2023/03130. You can find the approved documents in the official Planning Register.

Next steps

Demolition is expected to take place in Autumn 2026.

We expect to appoint a main contractor in due course. Then, we'll send an invitation to residents for a meet and greet session with the main contractor.
