Resident parking permits

Digital parking permits are parking permits that we issue ‘virtually’. 

When you buy a digital parking permit, you will not need to display anything on your vehicle's windscreen. It works in the same way your Vehicle Tax has worked for many years.

You will no longer receive a physical (paper) resident parking permit. 

How your digital parking permit will work

Your details and where you're covered

When we issue your digital parking permit, we'll send you an email or text message. This will confirm your details, including your parking zone. 

You can also check your details in your MyAccount. Go to the summary page to view your digital parking permit details.

If you can't get the information you need in MyAccount, you can raise a support ticket. 

If you still can't find what you're looking for, you can contact parking services. 

How we enforce parking restrictions

Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) will no longer rely on paper permits when enforcing parking restrictions. 

They will scan your Vehicle Registration Number (number plate), which will tell them:

• if there is a valid digital parking permit associated with it
• any restrictions that may apply
• where your vehicle is permitted to park

Enforcement officers will issue a Penalty Charge Notice only if there is no digital permit or paid parking session recorded in the system.

Benefits of digital parking permits

Digital parking permits are designed to bring you benefits such as not having to wait for the postal service to deliver a physical permit. 

The change will also:

• help us combat fraud
• help us be more efficient
• eliminate the need to print and post permits, reducing our carbon footprint

Changing your vehicle

If you have a paper permit, and you change your vehicle after 3 November 2025, you will be issued a digital replacement. 

You can submit a ‘permanent change of vehicle’ application by logging into your MyAccount.

If you applied using a paper form, you will need to contact parking services.
