What you'll need to apply to be a licenced taxi driver
Find out what documents you'll need to upload to your application and what to do if you can't upload them.
Upload your documents
You need to upload:
- three forms of identification, such as:
- your passport or birth certificate
- other passport with current visa
- a utility bill or bank statement
- DVLA driving licence
- Passport sized photo – send this as a jpeg
- drivers must upload one of the following:
- Wheelchair Training Certificate Disability & WAV Training
- DVSA Wheelchair Certificate
- Disability training certificate
- NVQ certificate dated within the last 3 years
- Child exploitation course:
- Taxi Safeguarding & Disability Awareness Training (includes safeguarding)
- Virtual Safeguarding Course for Taxi Drivers
- HMRC 9-character tax check code - go to GOV.UK to complete a tax check for a taxi, private hire or scrap metal licence
- Enhanced DBS certificate - go to TaxiPlus - Brighton & Hove City Council and select DBS and DVLA check
DBS Update Service
All drivers need to sign up to the DBS Update Service. The government's statutory standards require you to have a recheck every 6 months and update Brighton & Hove City Council.
This must be done within 28 days of being issued your enhanced certificate. Failure to supply an Enhanced DBS certificate and join the Update Service may lead to licence suspension.
