Who can request a certificate
Anyone can request a copy of a marriage or civil partnership certificate if the ceremony took place in Brighton & Hove or Steyning. You'll need to know the:
- date of marriage or civil partnership
- venue of marriage or civil partnership
- full name of both partners at the time of the marriage or civil partnership
- any other surname used before the marriage or civil partnership
- address of both partners (if you are applying for a copy of a civil partnership certificate)

For our standard certificate service, we will issue your certificate within 15 working days, and send it to you by second class post.
If you need a certificate urgently, we offer a priority service with 24 hour delivery. You must make a priority application by midday for next day collection or first class postage.
