How Shared Lives carers are paid

Shared Lives carers are not paid by the hour, and do not work to a fixed schedule. They get paid in line with the expectations set out in a Shared Lives arrangement agreement. Shared Lives carers make decisions about who they have staying or living with them and the scheme carry out a detailed matching process.  

Shared Lives carers do not employ staff to help them provide care. 

Shared Lives carers are not employed by the council, they are self-employed, this means they must pay their own tax and national insurance and can apply for the Shared Lives tax break

How much Shared Lives carers can get

Shared Lives carers can receive the following, depending on banding and individuals per household:
