Apply for a parking suspension
Find out how far in advance you will need to request a parking suspension and how much it will cost.
When to apply for a parking bay suspension
We need 7 full working days' notice for standard applications and 3 full working days' notice for skip suspensions.
We must receive your suspension application by 2pm, otherwise, your application will be dated as from the next working day.
If you need to arrange an urgent suspension outside the above notice periods, we may be able to arrange this. However, you'll need to pay £20 on top of the suspension application costs.
For long-term/large-scale (30 parking bays or more in one location) suspensions, we’ll need 10 weeks' notice.
Parking suspension fees and charges
You will need to pay an administration fee of £38 for your application or £19 if you’re a resident or business with an address in Brighton & Hove.
If you’re a new resident moving into the city and your suspension is for a removal vehicle, you will pay the residents’ fee of £19.
This fee is non-refundable and will be included in the total cost of the suspension.
There will also be a Non-compliance Admin Charge applied where parking bays have been occupied, reserved, or used for activities requiring a parking bay suspension, but no valid suspension application was in place at the time of use.
All costs in the table are for one 5.5m long bay.

Urgent suspension fee
If you need to arrange an urgent suspension outside the standard notice periods (7 full working days for a suspension and 3 full working days for a skip suspension), we may be able to arrange this.
A fee of £20 will be applied to the suspension application costs.
Amendment fee
If you make any changes in date, location, or number of bays 4 days before the suspension start date, you’ll have to pay an amendment fee of £32.
If you do not pay the amendment fee, your suspension will be cancelled and refunded. The cancellation fee will apply.
Cancellation fee
You’ll have to pay a cancellation fee of £32 if you cancel your suspension after the signage has been put up.
The cancellation fee will only apply to applications cancelled by you or where you haven’t paid the amendment fee.
When we process your refund, we’ll deduct the cancellation fee from the refund amount.
Non-compliance admin charge
A £40 non-compliance charge will be applied where parking bays are used for activities requiring a suspension without a valid application or authorisation being in place.
Community event discount
We offer a discount of 50% for community events with an estimated attendance of 15,000 or fewer. This number will be based on the outdoor events team listing.
Our Parking Strategy and Contracts Team will agree on the discount.
Utility suspensions
Utility suspensions are for water, gas, electric, and telecom works. The cost varies depending on where the suspension is.
Long-term applications
A long-term application lasts more than 4 weeks.
You’ll pay the relevant daily charge for the first 28 days. From day 29, the charge will change until the end of your suspension.
