Parking in a suspended bay
Find out who can park in a suspended bay and what to do if an unauthorised vehicle is parked in your suspended bay
Who can park in a suspended bay
In your application, you should have given us the registration numbers for any vehicles that will use the suspended bays. Only these vehicles can park in a suspended bay.
We check suspended bays early in the morning on the day of your suspension. If someone is parked there, they may be moved even if they:
- are displaying a blue badge
- were parked there before the suspension signs were put up
If you see a vehicle parked in your suspended bay, phone the Parking Enforcement Rapid Response Team and select option 2. Leave a message if your call is not answered, and include details of:
- where your suspension is
- any information about the unauthorised vehicle
Our relocation service runs until 1pm, and we cannot guarantee we'll remove vehicles that should not be in the suspended bay.
If you think your vehicle has been moved because it was parked in a suspended bay, phone the Parking Enforcement Rapid Response Team and select option 3 between 7am and midnight. You can also phone the police on 101.
If you’re using a different vehicle than the one on your application, you need to tell us as soon as possible by phoning Parking Customer Services. If you don’t let us know, your vehicle may be removed from the bay, and we might give you a Penalty Charge Notice.
Unauthorised bay use
If items such as building materials or skips are observed in parking bays without a suspension in place, we'll charge the full suspension costs to those responsible.
In addition, if extra space has been taken than initially agreed on in the application, the relevant charges will be requested from the applicant.
If non-compliance is observed, the case will be passed to the Highway Enforcement Team.
Parking bay suspensions on bank holidays
Parking bay suspensions may include bank holidays.
If a suspension is in place, the bay will still be enforced on a bank holiday, and vehicles parked in a suspended bay may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
We do not start new suspensions or relocate vehicles on bank holidays.
Complaints about suspended bays
If there are any problems or you want to question the enforcement of the suspended bay, you’ll need to put this in writing and send it to Parking Customer Service within 28 days of your suspension end date.
